 First day experience, while all flight were on time, the SAA flight was delayed with over 40 minutes. Instead of arriving at 19.00 at OR Tambo we I arrived at 19.45. They say first impressions last and really it was a turn off.

 I made my booking on Ebucks travel. I was contacted by ebucks travel ONLY to be informed of the flight time change. I never received a confirmation email AT ALL from SAA!!! I never received an email before the flight to check in either! All I received from SAA were emails to upgrade my flight. I won't be flying with SAA again as I'll have to guess what time my flight is! Pathetic service!

All COVID protocols were faithfully adhered to from entry into the airport. It was a personal pleasure to see you back in the skies and to have been there too. The cup cakes were well received.

 The travel experience was one of the best yet! It was a small flight, so I did not feel uncomfortable sitting so close to other people. COVID regulations were very strictly followed. Sanitizing at check-in, boarding,etc. Reminders of mask wear.

 There needs to be effortless experience for travelers use of the "flysaa" online booking site. Let me be more clear, it is not acceptable to purchase the ticket to fly to another country during these covid-19 period using the SAA flight, and not be able to be linked to all the required covid-19 pre-boarding processes, prior to coming to the airport check-in counter. This creates unnecessary stress for travelers and for some, an unexpected cancellation of trip. Suggestion: Get all then links for all pre-travel requirements and post it on the flysaa website for each ticket purchaser, so they know all their expected pre-travelcovid-19 related and other requirements, that need to be accomplished prior to the date of travel. This suggestion is nothing new, but should be a part of the business protocol, as it is readily available on other bigger airline website.

 Water was offered if you asked for it. Other airlines actually offer it to you at your seat. Cabin crew were a little impersonal and we did not see them for virtually the whole flight - the sat in the rear galley talking. So, no great improvement. You will have to try harder.

There were problems at the boarding gate, the cabin was insanely hot everybody was complaining but the crew did nothing! Dont think I saw them once apart from boarding!  It felt great to be in SA flight again. Although the flight was scheduled to leave at 14:10, we left at 14:20 which is 10 minutes late, not bad at all. I must admit that I was very worried about either flight cancelled or extreme delays, unknown fear. I must say that I was very impressed. I hope this experience will not be short lived.  So terrible that I would not fly with SAA again. Paid for a business class seat on a A330, but instead got business class on a A320, which is just maybe economy premium. So I would like to know why I paid for a business class seat and got economy premium. I would like my money refunded as I did not get what I paid for.  Drunk Passenger on the flight was allowed to scream and use foul language the entire flight, screaming and swearing throughout the entire flight, with staff allowing the passenger to carry on how he wants and on several occasions laughing with the passenger.  My flight was downgraded to a smaller aircraft after paying R30k for a business class hoping to get a flat bed. Only to be compensated with upgrade opportunity only when checking in and subject to availability. Surely this is not helpful at all - why not allow me to redeem the upgrade at the point of booking the flight - does this mean I book an economy ticket on the same six hr flight and hope I will get an upgrade on the day I travel - please check what other airlines are doing! Emirates have twice compensated me for a similar mishap, however allowed me to book a business class upgrade upfront. I really feel hard done by this time around! I had an option to use Ethiopia airlines, which was even cheaper, but consciously chose SAA instead in an effort of being patriotic to my National Flag bearer - only to be so utterly disappointed.

 On flight SA 53 back from Ghana the airhostess barely know the safety demonstration as she announced it over the intercom system. she has introduced the Star alliance program and did not even welcome the gold platinum and lifetime platinum members, also did not come to personally welcome Platinum members. We have stood by SSA in the hard times, and trying to stay loyal to SAA i am not expecting a badge, however a thank you for standing by us would be nice.

 The overall travel experience was good. There was a delay with boarding because the cleaning crew took longer but that's fine. SAA is renowned for good food and drinks. The food was great but the alcohol aspect can do better. I understand it's still early days but the cheap whisky Bains should be reconsidered for business class.

 I have recently completed a SAA flight plan that took me from Cape Town to Accra. To Jhb was great as I unexpectedly got bumped up to Business Class. Flight to Accra was fine. Return from Accra was fine. However, Flight SA323 from JHB to CT on the Sunday 17th October was delayed almost an hour because of a "cosmetic" (Captains words) panel that had come loose at the back of the main cabin. What was again in his words a 10 minute fix, told to us every 10 minutes thereafter turned out to be an annoying 50 minutes. This kind of silly repair should be done on SAA time and not at the expense of 200 passengers. I believe a bad call by the Captain.

 I flew SAA from SA to Ghana in Business Class on the 2nd of October. We were informed that due to unforeseen circumstance our plane will be changed to the smaller one, however we will be given 2 upgrade vouchers. Upto now I have not received those vouchers. I even called SAA Call Center and they said nothing like that exists.

 It was our very first flight ever with my husband and we got to OR Tambo at 9:20 for a 9:55 flight. We were refused entry into the flight and told that we have to pay close to R3000 to take a flight at 6 after 6pm. We had to buy tickets from another airline for R4 500.00. The guys were heartless in their approach of telling us that we will not be allowed entry. It was very heartbreaking.

  My experience with SAA got increasingly worse throughout travel, to include having to pay for two one-way tickets from Johannesburg to Cape Town twice. The second time resulted in almost 8000 zar for only two tickets. After using the app. as well as calling SAA by phone, I still had to visit the ticket counters in both cities. The Johannesburg agent rejected the documents and payment receipt given to me by the Cape Town agent. He also rejected my payment confirmation on the Chase Bank app, and told me that if I wanted to fly as scheduled, I would have to buy new tickets but at an increased price. We did so, as I had a business meeting upon arrival. My husband and I were not seated together. I chose SAA to fly and pick up my husband who I had not seen for several weeks. I wanted it to be special, as we are new residents in South Africa. I assumed SAA was the most reputable airline.

 I had a good trip to Lusaka from Johannesburg. I had to extend my stay in Zambia and changing flights was fine. When I attempted to check in online on 13 October, I saw the ability to upgrade to Business Class which I did and paid online. I also added an additional bag which was the beginning of my embarrassment and harassment. I tried to pay for the additional bag online and could not. I went to the airport in good time so I could pay for the extra bag there. First there was no staff at the business class check in. There was only one staff checking in all classes of customers. There was no instruction on what business class customers should do, but since there were few people, I joined the the queue that was there. Someone walked past all customers in the queue and went straight to the attendant, we said that was not fair and the attendant said he was business class. I said I too was business class and he ignored me. I kept my peace. I reached the attendant and told him I needed to pay for the extra bag, he said he could not take payment, I needed to wait for an SAA representative who was at the other terminal. I had to sit for close to 20 mins waiting. When the representative came, he was very polite and said he was not able to take payment. He said he would alert colleagues in SA to collect payment. All very good apart from the check in and the waiting. Flight was excellent, was glad to have upgraded. My embarrassment started when we landed, a SAA official came on board the flight with a POS pointing out. Came straight to my seat and effectively stopped me from getting off board. She tried the POS speaking loudly so seeming like I had done something wrong when it was SAA who would not accept my payment. If I could afford to upgrade, was there any doubt that I would pay for the extra bag? We walked to the bus, and even in the bus she kept trying my card and could not get network. I was escorted out of the bus and then she disappeared. I could hear other flyers commenting on what I could have done and how black people are normally chancers. She walked away as I cleared immigration. As I went to collect my bags, I found her with my bags with another member of staff, behaving as if, I was deceiving them. They tried my card again and still there was no network. In fact her colleague is the one who told her to be quiet and move to a private place to do this. Still the POS would not work. She decided, with no apology to inconvenience me further and walk next to me with her hand on my bags on top of the trolley all the way out on way to the SAA offices at OT airport. I was embarrassed and angry at this stage. Immediately I identified an ATM, I withdrew the amount she said I owed and gave it to her. She went to the SAA office and brought my receipt. I do not understand why I was treated like I did something wrong, when it was due to SAA own systems that I was unable to pay online oat the airport in Lusaka before departure. I just upgraded and saw an opportunity to carry my extra books and was willing to pay. SAA could have managed the situation much much better.

 Your staff's interpretation and application of sporting goods policy is inconsistent. At Cape Town I did not have to pay additional costs for my sporting goods (archery equipment). But then at oversized baggage, I was forced to reopen the case for inspection and had to complete documents which only applies for firearms and not archery equipment. At JHB international, I was forced to pay for the sporting goods in addition and here I did not have to open the case for inspection OR fill in paperwork for it. How can your staff not know and apply the correct procedures? Time was lost and wasted for all.

This ment we had to move the booking to October 22nd. This resulted in additional costs US$177, due to another Covid test had to be taken.  From Jo’burg to Cape Town: Travelling club class iwas a total waste of money. The lounge did not put any flight information up on board and despite my checking constantly, the first posting was “gate closed”. After rush to gate, was almost last on board (with a few others from lounge) and hand luggage had to be stowed in economy class. The cabin was full and I was in a cluster of 3 seats, all occupied. No social distancing possible in a two hour flight and yet no food or drink could be served (it was provided on return trip from Cape Town to Jo’burg). On leaving plane, I was handed a box (not easy to pop into a bag). This contained a few, nuts, crisps and biscuits. In all, not a pleasant experience and certainly not worth paying extra money.

 I had one bag and it was 27kgs the lady at the check-in told me that I would have to pay for another bag and that I was allowed two pieces of 23kg luggage. Any other airline would have seen that if a person has a 46kg allowance and they only have one bag it would not make sense for them to start opening their bag and removing things just to check to separate bags in. The only reason why SAA does this is because they will be trying to make money because they know you're in a hurry to leave. Your service is appalling, and I will never fly SAA again in my life.

To make matters worse, the penalty I incurred as a result cost the same as my ticket, and so I ended up using a different airline. My return trip was delayed by way more than 5 minutes and similar consequences didn’t apply. I don’t even recall receiving an apology (let alone a refund). My seat was uncomfortable and the inflight service standards have dropped; and if it wasn’t for cling wrap my baggage would have suffered damage too. SAA can do better.

 On 28 October flight SA53 was delayed and I missed my connecting flight on SA317 the next morning. I had a meeting in Cape Town and could not take the 2pm flight that SAA moved me onto. My wife, Benita Meyer was waiting for me in JHB and was going to fly with me to Cape Town on SA317. I had to buy 2 new tickets on another airline which cost me R6,500 for the 2 of us to get to Cape Town in time for our meeting.  Flight 308 CPT to JNB was fine, good to be back on board SAA. Flight 357 JNB to CPT was one of the worst experiences of my life. There was very poor compliance with COVID protocols. I would think around 1/3 of passengers or more simply did not wear masks at all, or had masks wobbling around their chins (already noted in the pre-boarding area). The cabin crew requested these pax over and again to put masks on, masks were put up, then taken down again so essentially these passengers spent the whole flight maskless. At one point the Captain had to remind passengers that it is a criminal offence not to wear a mask covering mouth and nose and there was even a warning that the flight may need to be quarantined on arrival in Cape Town but this did nothing to resolve this major breach of protocol. I have an immune deficiency disorder and am ultra careful when it comes to abiding by COVID rules - and expecting others to do the same. I am aware that there is a degree of risk in undertaking most activities and am prepared to take this risk assuming that compliance will be enforced. Flying yesterday was my first flight experience since the pandemic began. I chose SAA as I have always been proud of our national airline and am happy to see you back in the skies but I assumed that SAA would strictly enforce regulations. It was clear from well before departure that these passengers would ignore COVID protocols - mask wearing and social distancing. I was absolutely horrified. There were maskless passengers all around me. I even saw two maskless passengers leaning over a masked and sleeping passenger to loudly chat. A fellow passenger did comment to me that he had been on an international where passengers refusing to wear a mask were threatened with a taser. I am not suggesting that SAA begin zapping recalcitrant passengers, but I do feel that pre-emptive action should have been taken before this flight took off. Unfortunately, this experience is the one which will linger, and not the pleasant flight from CPT to JNB. I will also be sending a non-compliance complaint to the Department of Health.

 Flight was delayed by close to 2 hours due to baggage loading issues. The A320 is exceptionally old and uncomfortable. I flew business class but honestly, the seating offered is no better than Economy Plus. SAA really needs to re-introduce the A330 to the Accra route. Due to the delay in Accra, we missed our connecting flight to Durban. Because there are no Code- Share airlines with SAA to Durban, we got no help from any ground staff when we landed at ORT, despite the flight crew assuring us that we would be assisted.  This is what I shared on Facebook today: I flew this morning on South African Airways. ✈️What a pleasure it was! It was a clean and spacious Airbus 319 with well spaced passengers - a tangible difference from my other recent domestic flights. The cabin crew cared for us professionally and pleasantly. The food was even tasty, and I’m not one for airline breakfasts. 🥴 The sound system allowed us to clearly hear the information from the cockpit crew instead of the usual garbled message. Our flight took off from Cape Town ahead of schedule and consequently we landed, safely, in Johannesburg ahead of schedule. How unusual 👏 I am proud to see our national carrier in the skies again and I hope that they will get back to their former self of 20 years ago. A new Board, a vast difference. May they continue to lift their wings, without any additional support from our tax payers. #proudlysouthafrican

 I paid for a seat and got at most two-thirds of a seat. The person in the seat adjacent to me overflowed into my seat by at least one-third. This also happened on my previous flight. I book/purchase the exit row seat expressly because I want the extra room to be able to work. With somebody occupying one-third of my seat, my ability to work is severely compromised. Furthermore a person of such dimension will not be able to assist with the exit row door in the case of an emergency. in other words, they are also a safety risk. Now, I realise that the airline will hide behind the "we cannot discriminate" policy. And quite rightly there should be such a policy. However I am also a customer and should get what I paid for: a whole seat. I am also a Voyager Platinum member through loyalty to the airline. If the airline cannot find mechanisms for managing these situations then my loyalty is certainly at risk.

 SAA did not prioritize/lost my suitcase resulting me in almost missing my connecting flight in JHB. In addtiion the flight left Accra an hour late and arrived in JHB late. No provision was made to assist connecting passengers nor were there any health declaration forms on board to save passengers time. As passengers we understand that we cannot control the weather but the way a problem is handled/troubleshooted is very much in control by SAA. There should have been better communication on why the flight was delayed, what steps were going to be taken to mitgate the impact to connecting passengers, staff to shuttle connecting passengers through the check-in procedures. We should have been warned about this and made the decision on whether we want to fly or not. The food was horrible; no champagne on offer pre-flight.  Poorly worded Travel Advisory sent out about the flight time change led to a raging horde of "Karens" this morning! In all my years of travelling flight times are ALWAYS in local time, NEVER in UTC (as advised by a swamped SAA employee), this is utter BS. The whole thing could have been avoided with proper and accurate communication, not only in the email, but at check in (we were not notified of the time change and the boarding pass still indicated the 06:00 departure time) at the gate, there were lots of personnel back and forth, but nobody had any information and when asked, they 'would go find out' and disappeared. At the boarding gate, there was utter chaos again, as the staff were on their mobile phones, shouting at some of the other ground staff to run and tell someone else to answer their phone, we were then boarded by merely writing down our seat numbers, which to me was a huge security risk as no validations were done. Some passengers that had connecting flights were informed that they (ground staff) would be in contact with the airlines, others were left hanging, not knowing what was going on. Disembarking then also became an issue, as they (rightly) prioritised the passengers with connecting flights to disembark first, however we all got into the same bus, as the bus (without social distancing) filled to the brim before departing to the arrival hall, giving them no advantage at all. It was an absolute circus from start to finish. That being said, although not giving information, the ground staff did their utmost under the circumstances and stayed calm. The blame lies entirely on the airline and utter rubbish communication! I will endeavour as far as I can to avoid using SAA and all affiliated local airlines in future due to this!

 Flight was delayed in Lusaka Zambia on 22 December, was to depart at 13:05pm but departed after 14:000pm, had informed the supervisor that I had a connecting flight at 16:05 to Bloemfontein and was assured that arrangements were made on my behalf, a blatant lie as I missed my flight, when I arrived in Johannesburg and spoke to SAA Representative Josia he said it was not SAA problem that the flight had been delayed from Zambia, SAA contract ended when I arrived in Johannesburg. Further to that when my daughter called SAA call centre, she was told that the flight departed Lusaka on time, another blatant lie or should I call this information fraudulent. A grave inconvenience to my health as a 70 year old woman I had to run around the airport which was detrimental to my health and raised high blood pressure and duress on my body, another ticket had to be bought to Bleomfontein as the earlier ticket had been forfeited due to missing the flight, had I been properly informed in Zambia, ticket would have been rescheduled. Furthermore I had to pay for accommodation, another inconvenience!

 The pilot was impeccable the flight was SA060 5 January. I find flying very nerve wrecking especially turbulent ones. The before take off the pilot told us that it will be a bumpy flight and throughout the flight when encountering turbulence he communicated how long the turbulence will last.  My partner and I were in a flight from Cape Town to Joburg together on our way to a holiday in the bush. We decided to pack 1 suitcase for ease of travel etc. The suitcase ended up weighing 24kg's and the check in assistant just would not let it slide and made us unpack and repack into our hand luggage -into 'space' we already did not have. I am a very chilled person by nature but I found this and the way it was dealt with to be highly frustrating and none sensical. All this to say is that I understand that there are rules and norms to be adhered to, but there also needs to be a healthy dose of rationality applied in situations such as this one.

 I missed my initial flight even though I had checked on time at the counters. I encountered delay in checking my pet. The team at the airport did not radio communication and the counter, airports control and the staff at the gate did not communicate/ could not communicate with each other about the delay I had encountered. As a result, by the time I arrived at the gate, my bag was already taken off the flight due to time policy and procedure before departure. This situation could have been avoided if all the staff that were helping me had been able to communicate and ensure that I get on the flight which I had booked and paid for.  Good day. We traveled to Ghana on Saturday 22 January flight SA 52. We where shocked to see, 2 passengers who where already drunk as they came on the flight, they where seated at the emergency exit and where given alcohol through out the flight by the staff on that shift. My uncle Neil Barnard has been traveling with this air line for more than 40 years and has never been so on the edge in his life. he shat him self the hole way and that was really some thing to be concerned about. The link to buy the seat next to me did not work I was able to half online check in and purchased the seat next to me I was charged R15 and then R150.  I booked flights for my daughter and I and misspelled the "b" in her surname Lambert. I called customer care and requested assistance to fix the error but instead was told that the error could not be fixed and that I was to book/buy a new ticket for her using the correct spelled surname, of which I done and to request for a full refund as I bought a new ticket to replace the incorrect spelled ticket. Upon check in when we returned, it was found that the incorrect ticket was cancelled and the ticket with the incorrect misspelled surname was still in use. we had to scatter around to find assistance or miss our flight. this was a total inconvenience from the start! why was I not assisted with fixing of the misspelled surname on my baby daughters ticket and had to kockup extra funds of which I did not have to book a totally new ticket of which was incorrectly set for a refund, while the 1st ticket booked was still used as is. This was a total inconvenience that affected our holiday a lot as the funds saved for spending money was now held back due for a refund on a ticket that was unnecessarily bought. very unhappy customer, as this was my daughters 1st flight and holiday that we saved for.  Started off on a bad note. I wanted to transport some fishing rods, so I phoned the SAA customer service line to get more info on the baggage policy rules. The SAA agent on the phone told me that I WON'T be charged for carrying my fishing rods, provided that my total checked in baggage (including my fishing rods) is less than the limit which is 23kg. And I confirmed with her thrice before ending the call. When I arrived at the airport, I was now told that I must pay an extra fee for the rods. Even the SAA website says that sports equipment is included as part of your checked-in baggage.

 When I got on to the plane, the crew member was quick to tell me that my bag had no place in the overhead bins. I found space and when I confronted him about crew bags being prioritized over business class paying customers he insisted that this was the correct thing to do. It was shocking and very unexpected and unbecoming of an SAA crew member.  I do have a slight concern after boarding / doors closed the crew were starting the safety announcement the fire alarm went off at doors 3. My knowledge of the aircraft it was in the crew rest. The crew didn't follow standard fire procedures they just opened and closed the door. It went off twice before takeoff. Nothing during the flight. after landing at OR Tambo the alarm went off again no standard fire procedures were followed again. I do assume this is fault yet being a crew member myself I would think you can't take the chance thats it just the fault and not a fire. After aircraft came to complete stop the Snr person on board or person making the announcements ask have the crew at door 3 reset the detector. I might have been the only person on board the flight who pays attention to announcements. This announcement could have caused alarm in other passengers. I am sharing not to judge to only give feedback that taking safety being a priority procedures should always be followed and not assume.

 The flight crew did not ensure that all passengers keep on their face masks during the flight. The passenger next to me in 18B took her face mask off during the flight and this was not addressed by the fight attendants. A passenger took her child (age of child about 7-8 years) and who didn't wear a mask, to the back bathroom without a flight attendant ensuring the child wears a mask. They walked past two flight attendants. The with disembarking passengers all got up and the flight attendants failed to get passengers to remain seated until their allocated row was allowed to get up. Further the huge delay in our baggage getting to the carousel was just not acceptable.

This was totally unacceptable! and no explanation to this day has been given. I know that these things do happen, but how is it that my partners' bag arrived, but mine didn't.

 I arrived in Cape Town from Dubai, flying with emirates but obviously SAA was the local partner to connect from JHB to CPT. My baggage did not arrive in CT as was indicated on my baggage receipt. The individual on the ground did not help me open up a file but instead scribbled on a piece of paper a number that I should call the next day. I started called the following day from 8am as I needed my bag. Finally I called at 5.30pm and was told to come to the airport at 8.30pm. When I arrive at the airport I was told you better get here fast because I am going to leave.
